In the second installment of our survey on attitudes toward wooden condominiums, we asked, "Q. Compared to a typical reinforced concrete ("RC") condominium, how much rent would you be willing to pay for a wooden condominium for consideration?" The following are the results of the responses to the question "Q. How much rent would you consider for an RC condominium?

Over 60% would consider it if the rent was "equal to or less than RC construction

Regarding trends in sei-katsu-sha thinking about the effects (benefits) of wood uselast timeIntroduction. Even if wooden condominiums take advantage of the benefits of wood, it is not difficult to imagine that the condominium price (or rent in the case of rental apartments) will still have a significant impact on sei-katsu-sha housing choices. At present, the construction cost of wooden condominiums tends to be higher than that of RC or other general condominiums, so the price (rent) of wooden condominiums tends to be more expensive than that of general condominiums with the same specifications.

Since this current situation greatly affects the popularity of wooden condominiums, we surveyed and obtained responses on the perceived cost of wooden condominiums in terms of housing choice. The results are shown in the figure.

It was revealed that slightly less than 30% of the total respondents were willing to consider even a higher price (rent) than RC construction under certain conditions, such as the benefits of using wood.
On the other hand, it was also revealed that more than 60% of the total respondents would be reluctant to consider a RC building unless the price (rent) is the same or lower than that of an RC building.

<Those who do not choose wooden structures
A little more than 10% of the total respondents were a certain number of people who strongly expressed their intention not to choose a wooden condominium, even if it is less expensive than RC construction. We will discuss the reasons for not choosing wooden condominiums in the next issue.

<Those who will consider it even if the price is high
Just under 30% of all respondents indicated that they would consider a wooden condominium even if the price is higher, suggesting that appealing to the value of performance, design, and environmental friendliness can stimulate a certain level of demand. It is important to continue to actively communicate the appeal of wooden condominiums to this segment of the market and link this to their actual choice.

<Those who would consider it if the price is the same or lower than RC construction.
More than 60% of all respondents would consider a wooden condominium if the rent was "the same or lower than that of an RC condominium," indicating that price appropriateness is a major factor in their choice. However, even for this group, carefully communicating the added value unique to wooden condominiums, such as comfort, health, and environmental friendliness, and helping them to understand the appeal beyond cost, may lead them to choose a wooden condominium.

Furthermore, the gradual expansion of choice by this segment of the population will lead to increased demand for wooden condominiums and cost reductions due to economies of scale. As a result, wooden condominiums will become an easier choice for more people. (Yuta Takizawa, Platinum Concept Network)
