Why Forest Circular Economy Now?

Japan is a "resource-rich nation" with nearly 70% of its land covered by forests. However, their value is not being fully exploited. The shift from an economy dependent on fossil fuels to a "circular forest economy" that recycles and utilizes domestic forest resources is an issue that cannot wait any longer.
This is more than just forestry restoration. It is about decarbonizing cities through the use of wood, achieving energy self-sufficiency through biomass, and creating new industries and jobs in local communities. This is a national vision for Japan to realize a "platinum society" and pass on an affluent society to the next generation.
We hope that this newsletter will help to deepen the knowledge of all of you who have aspirations for the future and encourage you to take action. (Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman, Platinum Network for Sustainable Development and Honorary Editor-in-Chief, Forest Circular Economy)
