We aim to realize "Vision 2050: Japan Shines, Forest Circular Economy" promoted by the Platinum Forest Industry Initiative. We will disseminate ideas and initiatives to promote biomass chemistry, realize woody and lumbery communities, and encourage innovation in the forestry industry in order to fully utilize forest resources to decarbonize the economy, strengthen economic security, and create local communities.
総合木質建材メーカーの綿半建材は、長野県飯田市千代にある山林約1500ヘクタールを野池愛林農業協同組合から8月27日に取得した。「100年先の森林を考えて」との理念を掲げ、林業の活性化が課題となっている長野県で森林の再生に乗り出す。
この取り組みは、次世代に健全な森林資源を引き継ぐことを目的とした独自プロジェクト「ReFI（Re Forest Innovation）」の一環だ。「伐る・使う・植える・育てる」という持続可能なサイクルを構築し、森林保全と事業の両立を目指す。
取得した山林や飯田市周辺から伐採した木材は、木質バイオマス発電用の燃料チップのほか、住宅用の構造材や内装材として幅広く活用する。製品はグループ会社のホームセンター「綿半ホームエイド」で販売するほか、非住宅木造建築に利用し、海外への輸出もおこなうという。
長野県は全国有数の森林県でありながら、丸太生産量は全国36位にとどまる。多くの森林は高齢化が進み、本来であれば伐採や更新の時期を迎えている。林業従事者の高齢化や後継者不足が進む中、地域企業が主体となる今回の取り組みは、国内の森林資源活用における新たなモデルケースとして注目される。
