We aim to realize "Vision 2050: Japan Shines, Forest Circular Economy" promoted by the Platinum Forest Industry Initiative. We will disseminate ideas and initiatives to promote biomass chemistry, realize woody and lumbery communities, and encourage innovation in the forestry industry in order to fully utilize forest resources to decarbonize the economy, strengthen economic security, and create local communities.

Nomura Real Estate Holdings, Inc. has formulated the Nomura Real Estate Group Timber Procurement Guidelines, which cover all timber and timber products procured throughout the entire supply chain, with the goal of achieving zero deforestation and land conversion by 2030, The guidelines aim to realize a nature-positive approach by ensuring traceability and thorough risk assessments.

Three items for timber procurement centered on "legality, environmental conservation, and respect for human rights

The background to the establishment of these guidelines is the Group's sustainability policy, "Earth Pride - Connecting the Earth. By setting rules for timber procurement, the group, which considers biodiversity initiatives an important management issue, has made clear its stance as a real estate developer in confronting the environmental impact of its supply chain that uses timber.

These guidelines cover all timber and timber products procured within the Group. The Group itself promotes procurement activities in accordance with these guidelines, and also asks the entire supply chain to cooperate and collaborate with it.

The three goals are to "switch to sustainability-conscious lumber," "ensure traceability," and "assess risk. To achieve these goals, the company will promote compliance with laws and regulations, conservation of forests and natural ecosystems, and respect for human rights in the timber it handles.

It is noteworthy that the company has clearly stated its intention to "not procure timber originating from deforestation and conversion after the end of 2020. The company has enhanced the effectiveness of its operations by implementing regular risk management and monitoring, and by establishing a mechanism to encourage improvements when problems are uncovered.

It is significant that the Nomura Real Estate Group, one of Japan's leading developers, has set clear guidelines for timber procurement. This is not simply a change in material selection standards, but an industry-leading challenge to realize a nature-positive approach to forest resources for future generations.
