We aim to realize "Vision 2050: Japan Shines, Forest Circular Economy" promoted by the Platinum Forest Industry Initiative. We will disseminate ideas and initiatives to promote biomass chemistry, realize woody and lumbery communities, and encourage innovation in the forestry industry in order to fully utilize forest resources to decarbonize the economy, strengthen economic security, and create local communities.

The Forestry Agency will hold two symposiums in Tokyo on February 3 and 4 to accelerate the development and implementation of new technologies in the forest and forestry sector. One is the "Forest Hub Symposium" to share advanced case studies of digital forestry practices, and the other is the "Smart Forestry Machinery and New Wood Materials Symposium" focusing on the development and demonstration of the latest forestry machinery and new wood-based materials. By sharing diverse knowledge from industry, government, and academia, the symposium will explore the possibilities for safe and profitable forestry.

Forest Hubs" as the core of forestry innovation

The first day of the event, "2025 Forestry Hub Symposium: The Future of Forestry Achieved by the Entire Community," will feature lectures, reports, and talk sessions on initiatives in advanced regions implementing digital forestry, as well as partnerships and collaborations with different fields. The first part of the symposium will present the prospects for the activities of "forestry hubs," which will serve as the nucleus of forestry innovation.

The second part of the seminar will focus on how to create a regional forestry base using digital technology, and will focus on advanced case studies in the field. Specifically, the presentation will introduce methods for building regional forestry centers using digital technology and revitalization measures to optimize log distribution. It is expected that practical knowledge will be shared to design the future of the forestry industry on a community-wide basis.

Smart Machinery and New Materials Open Up New Values for On-Site Safety and Resources

On the second day, "2025 Symposium on Smart Forestry Machinery and New Wood Materials: Development and Demonstration of New Technologies for the Future of Forestry" will feature lectures and reports focusing on new wood-based materials, forestry machinery, and safety assurance. Trends in hardware development and new materials that are directly related to solving problems in the field will be introduced. Reports on the demonstration of new wood-based materials, such as material recycling of modified lignin and non-rayon bamboo-cotton yarn, will show new circuits for connecting forest resources to the chemical and textile industries, while smart machinery will attract attention as a technology that will greatly contribute to ensuring safety and saving labor at severe forestry sites.

This symposium, where various knowledge intersects, is sure to be a valuable time for the implementation of new technologies in forestry and forestry in society.
