We aim to realize "Vision 2050: Japan Shines, Forest Circular Economy" promoted by the Platinum Forest Industry Initiative. We will disseminate ideas and initiatives to promote biomass chemistry, realize woody and lumbery communities, and encourage innovation in the forestry industry in order to fully utilize forest resources to decarbonize the economy, strengthen economic security, and create local communities.

Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company, with technical cooperation from Shimizu Corporation, completed construction of a rental condominium, "Primal Shinagawa Oimachi," in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, in February. The condominium is the first in the life insurance industry (*in-house survey) to adopt a hybrid wooden structure, providing a living space of wellbeing through the warmth of wood. It is a new model for urban housing complexes, aiming for both reduced environmental impact and rich living performance, including a reduction of approximately 7% in CO2 emissions during the construction process.

Utilizing Shimizu Corporation's wood construction technology

Primal Shinagawa Oimachi" introduces a hybrid structure combining reinforced concrete (RC) and wood construction. Compared to conventional RC-only buildings, the new building successfully reduced CO2 emissions during construction. Furthermore, through the active use of domestic timber and the effective utilization of offcuts, the building encourages the recycling of forest resources in Japan.

On the technical side, Shimizu High Wood (R), a wood construction technology developed by Shimizu Corporation, was utilized. In addition to the effective placement of wood as a structural component and interior and exterior finishing material, the "reverse beam construction method," in which beams are placed on the floor side, was adopted. This has created a living space with a sense of openness surrounded by natural wood.

At the root of this property is the concept of "wellbeing" to keep residents' minds and bodies healthy. Wood is used in abundance at the entrance and promenade of the common areas, and the design allows residents to feel the aroma and warmth of wood on a daily basis, even in the heart of the city.

A woody living environment brings not only healing, but also an experience that enhances the quality of life itself. The woody living environment provides not only a healing experience, but also an experience that enhances the quality of life itself. This is an example of an answer to this challenge in the form of urban rental housing.
