We aim to realize "Vision 2050: Japan Shines, Forest Circular Economy" promoted by the Platinum Forest Industry Initiative. We will disseminate ideas and initiatives to promote biomass chemistry, realize woody and lumbery communities, and encourage innovation in the forestry industry in order to fully utilize forest resources to decarbonize the economy, strengthen economic security, and create local communities.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold "WOOD Collection (Moku Collection) 2026" at Tokyo Big Sight on February 12 and 13 to expand the use of domestically produced timber. The theme of this year's event, the 10th of its kind, will be "Domestic Timber Opens Up New Opportunities for Industry, Society, and Lifestyle in My Life. The event will bring together attempts to utilize Japan's forest resources in all areas of society, from architecture and furniture, to traditional technology and fusion with other fields, to the latest forestry DX and wooden satellites.
This exhibition will present new values created by fusing wood with cutting-edge technology, traditional techniques, and different fields from multiple perspectives, rather than viewing wood as a mere material.

The thematic exhibition, "Experience Domestic Timber from Where It Is Today to the Challenges of the Future," will comprehensively introduce the current state of Japan's forests and forestry, the forefront of smart forestry utilizing drones and AI, and examples of crossover with other fields. Of particular interest is the concept of utilizing wood in space through the verification of the wooden satellite "LignoSat," which will be used to explore the potential of wood to the utmost limit. In the "Creation, Movement, and Stillness" plaza, which stimulates the five senses, visitors will have the opportunity to rediscover the warmth and functionality of wood through hands-on experience.

The proposals by exhibitors also symbolize the recycling and utilization of forest resources. On the industrial side, a timber distribution system in which each tree is given an ID will be presented, while on the social side, efforts to restore and revitalize forests by utilizing "damaged trees" from a large-scale forest fire will be introduced. On the lifestyle side, new materials based on hand-dyeing techniques from the Edo period (1603-1868), hybrid panels that transmit light, and other value propositions that fuse tradition and innovation are lined up.

A talk session by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma is also scheduled during the exhibition. The discussion on how to return forest resources to urban design and build a sustainable society will be an important suggestion for the reforestation of Japan. MOKU-COLLE 2026 will be an excellent opportunity to experience trees through all five senses, and to come into contact with a wide variety of ideas that connect our daily lives with forests.
