We aim to realize "Vision 2050: Japan Shines, Forest Circular Economy" promoted by the Platinum Forest Industry Initiative. We will disseminate ideas and initiatives to promote biomass chemistry, realize wooden cities, and encourage innovation in the forestry industry in order to fully utilize forest resources to decarbonize, strengthen economic security, and create local communities.
The role of forests in a sustainable society is beginning to be reevaluated around the world, and there is a growing recognition worldwide that the recycling of forest resources leads to a sustainable society. In particular, three movements are accelerating: the rapid evolution of biomass chemistry to break away from fossil resources; the conversion of cities to wood to fix CO2 and create old and new communication environments; and regional development and innovation in work styles through various technological innovations and collaboration with other industries such as agriculture, tourism, and the wood processing industry! The first is the creation of a new communication environment, which is becoming more and more common. At the same time, however, there are still many issues to be addressed, such as the spreading devastation of forests due to lack of manpower, the increasing number of forests with unknown owners, low productivity in forestry, aging society, lack of human resources, and indifference to sustainability in the supply chain as a whole. Forest Circular Economy was launched to break through these challenges. It is a media to bring together ideas for awakening forests as a "sleeping resource" and to create a comfortable recycling-oriented society. In this special seminar commemorating the launch of "Forest Circular Economy," various people who will accelerate this "Forest Circular Economy" will present topics and engage in discussion.
